Motorola Watch Ultra leak reveals rugged 46mm design

Motorola is preparing its first Ultra-branded smartwatch, and a leak suggests the company is targeting the rugged end of the market. The Motorola Watch Ultra is shown with a large case, LTE connectivity, and water resistance to 50 meters—a design aimed at more than basic notifications and everyday use.

The renders show a round display, a large rotating crown bearing the Motorola logo, and a separate side button. The watch looks closer to a heavy outdoor model than a slim city smartwatch, while the strap’s contrasting stitching reinforces that impression.

The reported specifications include:

• Water resistance to 50 meters
• IP68 protection against dust and water
• Built-in GPS and LTE

The 50-meter water-resistance rating and IP68 certification are listed separately in the leak. The images do not establish other details such as battery life, health sensors, software, or display specifications.

Samsung and Apple already occupy the Ultra segment

Motorola would be entering a category already associated with Samsung and Apple. The Galaxy Watch Ultra emphasizes durability, battery life, and sports features, while the Apple Watch Ultra is positioned around premium status and integration with the iPhone.

Update, 3 September 2026 — Moto Watch Ultra launches September 10 for $349

The Moto Watch Ultra is now an announced product. Android Central reports that Motorola unveiled it at IFA 2026 with Wear OS, a 1.5-inch OLED display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 chip and a 46mm stainless-steel case. The watch includes Google Wallet, dual-band GPS, IP68 protection and 5ATM underwater protection.

Motorola is working with Polar on features including Serene breathing exercises, Nightly Recharge, Sleep Plus Stages and a Running Coach. The company says the watch will last two days with active use and its always-on display disabled. It will go on sale September 10 through motorola.com for $349, reach Verizon on September 24, and expand to other carriers in the coming months.

Update, 3 September 2026 — Display reaches 2,700 nits; 15-minute charge adds 24 hours

Digital Trends reports that the Moto Watch Ultra’s 1.5-inch OLED display reaches 2,700 nits, uses Gorilla Glass 3 and supports standard 22mm bands. Its LTE eSIM can handle calls, texts and notifications over a cellular connection, while Wear OS provides access to Google Play, Maps, Messages, YouTube Music and Gemini.

Motorola rates a 15-minute charge for up to 24 hours of use, in addition to the previously reported two-day claim with the always-on display disabled. The watch starts at €429 in Europe and is set to roll out across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America and Asia-Pacific over the coming weeks.
