GDPR compliance

for(geeks) is committed to protecting the personal data of every reader and to processing it in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The site has no accounts and asks you for nothing, so what we hold ourselves is minimal. It is funded by advertising, however, and both advertising and analytics involve cookies set by third parties — in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland none of that starts before you consent in the privacy dialog on your first visit, and you can withdraw at any time from Privacy settings in the footer. What each partner collects is itemised in our cookie policy. Whatever you choose, the rights below apply in full.

Your rights under GDPR

• The right to be informed: clear, transparent information about how your data is used — this page and our Privacy policy.
• The right of access: you may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• The right to rectification: you may have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
• The right to erasure: you may request deletion of your data where there is no compelling reason for us to keep it.
• The right to object: you may object to processing based on legitimate interest.

Legal basis and scope

Baseline data is what any web server sees: IP address, user agent, and requested pages, kept in rotating access logs for up to 30 days on the legal basis of legitimate interest (security and capacity planning). Everything beyond that baseline — Google AdSense and its advertising partners, Google Analytics, Yandex Metrica — runs on the legal basis of your consent, given in the privacy dialog and withdrawable at any time (see our cookie policy). We build no profile of you ourselves and we do not sell reader data to anyone; where you consent to personalised advertising, the profiling behind it is carried out by Google and its partners as independent controllers, and you can refuse it while continuing to read the site.
