IFA 2026: Piquadro adds air sensors and fingerprint locks to bags

Piquadro is bringing its Bagmotic smart-accessory platform to IFA 2026 in Berlin. The company will show a new backpack with environmental sensors and biometric locks for its bags and accessories. The appearance, scheduled for September 4–8, is Piquadro’s debut at the consumer-electronics event.

The Corner Backpack uses MEMS sensors from Bosch Sensortec to monitor air quality while the wearer is moving. Piquadro has not disclosed the sensor’s measured pollutants, sampling rate, calibration method, connectivity protocol or whether readings are exposed through a phone app. It also has not announced pricing or US availability.

“Air quality” can describe different implementations. The announcement establishes that the backpack collects information about its surrounding environment, but it does not say whether the system measures particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, temperature, humidity or another metric. It also does not state how the electronics are powered, where the sensor module is positioned, or how the design handles sensor exposure when the bag is being carried close to the body.

Bagmotic is a platform, not one product

Piquadro describes Bagmotic as a design platform intended to extend across multiple product categories rather than as a single collection. Alongside the Corner Backpack, the company will show Fingerprint Lock systems that use biometric recognition to lock and unlock products.

The announcement does not specify whether Fingerprint Lock stores templates locally, how many fingerprints it supports, what happens when recognition fails, or whether a mechanical backup is included. Those are practical questions for luggage hardware: a lock must still be usable when its battery is depleted, the reader is dirty, or the owner is wearing gloves. Piquadro has not provided those operating details.

The company also plans to present a new generation of small leather goods and technology accessories built around modularity and connectivity. No model numbers, dimensions, battery capacities or prices were provided for those products, so the IFA demonstration should provide more information about how the platform is implemented across the range.

Piquadro says its goal is to add electronics only when they deliver a concrete function while keeping the technology visually discreet. In the Corner Backpack, that means using embedded sensing to collect environmental data instead of adding an overt screen or control surface. The company has not said whether the backpack can operate independently or requires a paired device to view or process its readings.

Where to see the products

Piquadro will exhibit the Bagmotic products at stand H3.2-149 in Hall 3.2 during IFA 2026. The show runs from September 4 through September 8, 2026, but the company has not announced a retail launch date, US distribution plans or dollar pricing for the Corner Backpack, Fingerprint Lock products or the additional leather and tech accessories.

The announcement describes a product direction and an exhibition lineup rather than a complete connected-accessory specification. The environmental measurements, software experience, security model, power requirements and commercial terms are still unreported.
