IFA 2026: Hypershell Halo adds powered knees to exoskeleton

Hypershell will announce and show Halo at IFA 2026 in Berlin on September 3, presenting a full-leg exoskeleton that the company describes as the world’s first. Unlike the company’s existing hip-only systems, Halo uses four motors to coordinate powered assistance at both the hip and knee joints.

Halo extends Hypershell’s stride assistance beyond the pelvis. Its “unified architecture” connects all four powered joints into one system, allowing the exoskeleton to distribute support across the lower limb as terrain and movement change. The company says this gives Halo a broader range of assistance than its earlier products, which place their motors around the hips and help drive the wearer’s stride.

A hip-only exoskeleton can add power to the beginning of a step, but it does not directly assist the knee as the leg absorbs load, climbs, or moves over uneven ground. Halo is designed to coordinate both joints instead of treating them as separate supports. Hypershell has not disclosed Halo’s peak output, weight, battery capacity, runtime, charging time, price, or supported user height and weight ranges.

Hypershell’s existing X Series provides the available performance reference, although those figures are not specifications for Halo. The company says the X Series reaches around 800W of peak output, delivers 40% more leg strength, and reduces effort by 30%. The system’s motion control adapts to a wearer’s stride in real time, while its battery is claimed to last for more than 10 miles per charge; a 35-minute top-up is said to restore the battery to 50%.

Those numbers describe the older hip-focused design, not the new four-motor model. Adding two powered knee joints could broaden the assistance envelope, but the announcement does not establish how that changes battery consumption, total weight, latency, joint range of motion, or control behavior. Where to see Halo at IFA 2026

Hypershell will showcase Halo alongside the X Series at Booth 119 in Hall 12. IFA 2026 runs in Berlin through September 8. The September 3 keynote is the stated unveiling date; the company has not announced a retail launch date or US pricing.

For US buyers, the main questions remain unanswered. The announcement establishes that Halo will be demonstrated in Berlin, but it does not say whether the exoskeleton will be sold in the United States, how much it will cost, or whether it is intended for consumers, industrial users, rehabilitation, or more than one market. Until Hypershell publishes those details and performance data for the full-leg system, the four-motor architecture is the main announced change—not yet a verified improvement over the company’s existing products.

Update, 7 September 2026 — Halo is now up for preorder at $2,299

The IFA demonstration has happened, and CNET reports that Hypershell is taking preorders for Halo immediately at $2,299. In its hands-on report, CNET puts the exoskeleton’s total weight at 2.6kg, with most of it around the waist. The removable battery is rated for up to 20 hours and weighs 370g.

CNET also reports support for speeds up to 17km per hour and says the system uses more than 30 sensors with an onboard AI chip that predicts movement 200 milliseconds ahead. Those are reported product specifications and hands-on observations; the report does not provide independent performance testing.
