IFA 2026: iRobot’s Roomba Duo pairs a floor washer with a smaller 757

iRobot showed the Roomba Duo at IFA 2026 in Berlin, a concept that combines a floor washer with a smaller robot vacuum. The system is designed to let both machines clean together: the large unit handles open floor areas, while a mechanical arm lowers the smaller Roomba Plus 757 into tighter spaces beneath tables and around corners.

The Duo is not a conventional robot vacuum with a larger docking station. Its main body is an autonomous mobile dock that carries clean- and dirty-water tanks and a dust bag. It uses lidar and camera-based navigation to map the home, avoid obstacles, and search for dirt while moving between rooms.

The primary machine is also intended to do more than mop hard floors. iRobot says it is the most powerful vacuum it has made, with performance closer to an upright vacuum than to a typical robot cleaner. Its large roller mop can steam-clean floors while applying 46 newtons of downward pressure. In a demonstration, the machine picked up pasta from carpet and then washed the carpet.

A mobile dock with a second robot

The smaller machine is the Roomba Plus 757, which rides on top of the floor washer until the Duo reaches a location the larger body cannot access. A mechanical arm then lowers the 757 to the floor, where it cleans the confined area before returning it to the carrier.

The deployment mechanism worked smoothly and relatively quickly during the demonstration. It uses an approach reminiscent of the mechanism iRobot used on the J7 Combo to lower its mop, scaled up to move an entire robot. That adds another moving subsystem, however, and long-term durability is an open concern. The Duo has to carry the second cleaner, lower it repeatedly, maintain alignment, and return it to the top while also transporting water and debris.

The concept also creates a different physical profile from the compact robot vacuums most homes are built around. Its main body resembles the larger autonomous cleaning machines used in commercial spaces such as hotels and malls. Combining a robot vacuum, stick vacuum, carpet cleaner, and floor washer could reduce the number of devices a household needs, but the trade-off is a much larger and more mechanically complex machine.

No price or release date yet

Unlike the $1,199 Roomba Max 875 Combo iRobot has already announced, the Roomba Duo is not a product customers can order. Our earlier coverage of the Max 875 described its SealForce carpet-cleaning system, heated-mist mopping, and auto-wash dock; the Duo is a separate concept built around two mobile cleaning units rather than a production specification for that model.

The company has not disclosed a price, release date, complete specification sheet, or final operating details for the Duo. Exact specifications are still being developed, and iRobot plans to use feedback from the IFA demonstration while deciding how the device should work.

The device was closely supervised at the event. Several engineers from iRobot parent company Picea were monitoring it, and two people were needed to carry the prototype between demonstrations. That does not establish a final product constraint, but it shows the gap between a working show prototype and a consumer-ready machine.

Picea bought iRobot out of bankruptcy earlier in 2026, and the Duo was presented by iRobot CEO Hao Li. Li framed the concept as a continuation of the Roomba brand rather than a departure from it:

“The future of floor care has a familiar name.”

The demonstration established the concept and its 46-newton mopping force. It did not establish whether the machine can operate reliably over years of deployments, navigate furniture with the added upper robot, or justify the size and complexity of carrying a second cleaner. For now, the Roomba Duo is a prototype shown at IFA 2026 with no confirmed path to retail.
