Robot mowers often leave a strip of grass beside a driveway, fence, or flowerbed. Anker and Mammotion showed new models with dedicated edge-cutting hardware at IFA 2026.

Anker provided more details about the Eufy Robot Lawn Mower S2 Max. Its extendable trimming arm is designed to reach grass around driveways and flowerbeds. The main machine uses a dual-blade cutting system and all-wheel drive.

The S2 Max uses camera-based vSLAM navigation. Its built-in cameras create a 3D map of the yard, so Anker says owners don’t need to install boundary wires or a real-time kinematic (RTK) base station. The mower can map and mow up to 3.7 acres and handle slopes of up to 80 percent, or 38 degrees, according to the company.

The S2 Max is scheduled to launch in May 2027 at €3,999. Anker has not announced US pricing or confirmed US availability, so the euro price cannot yet be treated as a dollar price for American buyers. Mammotion adds cameras, lidar and network RTK

Mammotion’s Luba 4 AWD takes a different approach to positioning. It combines four cameras mounted across the front, sides, and rear with a 360-degree lidar system and network RTK, which uses the cloud for navigation. Mammotion says the combination is intended to eliminate coverage gaps and positioning drift.

The Luba 4 AWD also has independent front-wheel steering. That lets it change direction without making a full U-turn, a maneuver that can leave tracks in the lawn. Like the S2 Max, the Luba includes an edge-cutting attachment intended for walls, fences, and garden borders.

Mammotion is offering the Luba 4 AWD as a three-model range. The smaller 3000F is rated for up to 0.75 acres, while the 6000F is rated for up to 1.5 acres. The 12000F extends the claimed coverage to 3 acres, but it does not support the edge-trimming attachment.

The two smaller models use a dual-disc cutting system with a 17.3-inch cutting width. The 12000F uses three cutting discs spanning 20.9 inches, giving it the widest cutting system in the lineup but removing the edge-trimming feature that defines the other models.

Mammotion plans to open preorders for the Luba 4 AWD later in 2026, but it has not disclosed pricing for any of the three models. Anker has supplied a price and ship month but not a US launch plan. Edge cutting becomes the differentiator

The Luba 4 AWD and S2 Max add built-in edgers as similar designs spread through the robot-mower category. Models from Segway, Ecovacs, and Roborock also use edge-focused designs. The main deck of a conventional robotic mower cannot always reach the boundary without risking contact with a wall or fence.

The technical split is clear. Anker is emphasizing a camera-only mapping workflow that removes the need for an RTK base station, while Mammotion is combining cameras, lidar, and network RTK to maintain positioning across the yard. Mammotion’s 12000F covers up to 3 acres and cuts a wider 20.9-inch path, but gives up the edge attachment.

For US shoppers, neither announcement is yet a purchase decision. The S2 Max has a May 2027 launch window and a euro price but no US pricing or availability; the Luba 4 AWD has no announced price. Buyers still do not know what it will cost to get the edge-cutting feature.
