Xiaomi launches dual-lens AI camera for 799 yuan
Xiaomi’s Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition costs 799 yuan in China and combines dual cameras, 4K video, AI Care, and 12x hybrid zoom.
Xiaomi has started selling the Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition in China for 799 yuan, or about $120. The home-security camera combines two imaging modules, AI-based monitoring, and a motorized gimbal designed to keep people, pets, and other moving subjects in view.
Dual cameras and 4K zoom
The camera uses a 12-megapixel telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module. Both use an f/1.6 aperture and 6P optics. Video recording reaches 4K, with 3x lossless zoom and 12x hybrid zoom; the system can also focus on a selected object.
Ten infrared illuminators support shooting in darkness, while a separate night mode is available for color images in low light. The two-motor gimbal provides 360 degrees of horizontal rotation and 180 degrees vertically. Xiaomi says it is 30% faster than the mechanism in the C700, helping the camera track moving subjects.
Other hardware and connectivity specifications include:
- Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3
- A microSD card slot supporting up to 256GB
- A Mi Home security chip with EAL5+ certification for data encryption
- A 3T quad-core processor, which Xiaomi says is three times faster than the C700
AI Care and pricing in China
The camera’s main differentiator is AI Care, an AI subsystem built on a large language model. It can recognize activities such as working at a table, falls, prolonged inactivity, and pet behavior. It then creates daily reports and lets users search for relevant footage with a text query.
The Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition is already available in China at the same 799-yuan price used during crowdfunding. It has a silver-gray body, a fabric-covered base, and upgraded acoustics, giving it a more furniture-like appearance than a conventional sensor.
Xiaomi is entering a Chinese home-camera market that also includes Imou, EZVIZ, and TP-Link Tapo, whose products offer features such as 4K video, night vision, and cloud analytics. Xiaomi’s model instead combines dual-camera coverage, onboard processing, and recognition of household scenarios. The company has not announced availability outside China.
