Outlook is finally getting drag-and-drop scheduling
Outlook’s August 2026 roadmap includes drag-and-drop event rescheduling, event filters, Copilot pop-outs, and clearer calendar conflict alerts.
Microsoft is preparing a batch of Outlook updates for August 2026, including a practical calendar change that could make rescheduling much faster: drag-and-drop support for events on Android and iOS.
The planned features are listed on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, so the dates and availability may still change. They also span Outlook’s mobile, desktop, web, Mac, and iPad apps rather than arriving as one universal release.
Outlook’s August 2026 roadmap updates
The most significant addition is drag-and-drop scheduling. In day and multi-day calendar views, users will be able to move an event to a new time slot by dragging it, instead of opening the event and manually changing its details. The roadmap lists the feature for Android and iOS, with no web rollout currently mentioned.
Outlook mobile will also gain an Events filter in August. Users will be able to filter their messages to show only emails containing calendar invitations, separating meeting requests from ordinary messages.
The remaining updates include:
- Copilot Chat pop-out: On Mac and iPad, Copilot Chat will be detachable from the Outlook window and displayed as a floating panel over the main app. Microsoft says users will be able to switch contexts, create more working space, and control how the chat appears.
- OneDrive signature images: On Android and iOS, users will be able to add an image from OneDrive to their email signature, alongside images stored in the device’s photo library.
- Clearer all-day events: Outlook on Windows and the web will make calendar previews more clearly show conflicts involving Out of Office periods or all-day Busy events when meeting invitations arrive.
A useful change, but only on mobile for now
The combination of event filtering and drag-and-drop scheduling addresses two separate sources of friction: finding invitations in a crowded inbox and moving those events once they are found. The mobile focus is notable, however. The roadmap does not list drag-and-drop support for Outlook on the web, even though that would extend the feature to more desktop users.
Microsoft also has not announced a precise release day for any of these updates. August 2026 is the listed rollout start, and the roadmap does not establish whether every platform will receive its feature at the same time.
