iPhone Ultra color leak clashes with bigger claims
Leaked accessories suggest Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra may come in silver and dark blue, but Caviar’s claims conflict on colors, specs, and price.
Apple’s rumored first foldable iPhone may launch in silver and dark blue, according to a leak based on camera-protection accessories. That detail is far less certain than the expected announcement window: the accessories are third-party products, not Apple components, and another report points to entirely different colors.
Silver and dark blue accessories fuel the color rumor
Leaker Sonny Dickson posted images of two camera protectors in silver and dark blue. 9to5Mac reported that accessory makers produced the pieces using alleged supply-chain information. That makes them an indirect signal rather than evidence of Apple’s final industrial design, although the outlet noted Dickson’s track record with accessory leaks.
The new colors differ from an earlier February rumor, which described the foldable iPhone Ultra as either dark gray or black, alongside white or light silver. The latest leak therefore suggests a possible shift from dark gray to deep blue, if the accessory color reflects Apple’s plans.
The naming is unsettled, too. Apple’s foldable has been referred to as the iPhone Fold and iPhone Ultra, while the reports consistently place its announcement next month. Apple has not confirmed the device, its name, or its colors.
Caviar’s iPhone Ultra claims do not match
A separate report from GSMArena adds a much broader set of alleged specifications, drawn from customization company Caviar. Caviar has listed unofficial designs for both the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the rumored foldable, and claims Apple will hold its launch event on September 9. GSMArena described that date as plausible but unverified, noting that Caviar’s “insider” claims cannot be independently confirmed.
Caviar’s foldable specifications include:
- A titanium frame and a hinge made from liquid metal, described as an amorphous alloy
- A thickness of 4.9mm unfolded and about 9mm folded
- A 7.8-inch internal display with a book-like 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.3-inch external screen
- 120Hz LTPO technology on both displays
- An Apple A20 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM
- Two 48-megapixel rear cameras
- A 24-megapixel selfie camera, allegedly placed under the display
- A claimed 5,800mAh battery
The color reporting from Caviar directly diverges from the silver-and-dark-blue accessory leak: its page lists deep black and pure white for the iPhone Ultra. Caviar’s own pages also contradict each other on the processor, identifying the A20 Pro as a 2nm chip for the iPhone 18 Pro but a 3nm chip for the foldable. GSMArena noted that most existing rumors point to 2nm and characterized the inconsistency as a reason not to trust the “insider” material at face value.
Caviar’s iPhone 18 Pro claims include a new Dark Cherry signature color, alongside silver, gray, and light blue. The report also repeats rumors of 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, a smaller Dynamic Island enabled by under-display Face ID components, a variable-aperture main camera, and a Camera Control button with no physical actuation. Those details concern the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max rather than the foldable.
Production and price remain unclear
ITzine additionally reported an earlier production rumor: Apple may have raised its planned foldable iPhone output to about 10 million units this year, from an earlier estimate of 7 million to 8 million. The outlet also cited IDC’s estimate of an average price of roughly $2,500. That is higher than the approximately $1,999 price reported in our earlier coverage of Apple’s possible September lineup, so the reporting does not establish a settled price.
The production figure matters because the rumored device would enter Apple’s lineup at a premium while the company may already face supply pressure elsewhere. We previously reported that the iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone Ultra could face launch shortages as DRAM delays production and push prices higher. The new color leak says nothing about whether Apple can actually deliver 10 million units, and none of the reports establishes US or EU availability.
The outlets diverge in emphasis: 9to5Mac and ITzine focus narrowly on the silver and dark-blue accessories, while GSMArena treats Caviar’s pages as a bundle of unverified design, specification, and launch-date claims. That contrast is useful because the most concrete new evidence is also the least direct: camera protectors reveal what accessory makers expect, not what Apple has approved.
Our read is that the color rumor is credible enough to track but too weak to treat as a product confirmation. The conflicting black-and-white report, Caviar’s contradictory chip-process claims, and the unresolved gap between the $1,999 and $2,500 price signals all point to a launch story still dominated by leaks. Until Apple confirms the event, specifications, and pricing, the accessories tell us more about rumor-market expectations than about the final iPhone Ultra.
