Apple Wallet may save trade-in offers for 90 days
Apple may let customers save trade-in offers in Wallet for 90 days, up from the current 14-day validity period.
Apple may let customers save device trade-in offers in Apple Wallet and keep them valid for up to 90 days, compared with the current 14-day window. The possibility was reported by Itzine, based on strings found in Apple’s Guide app.
Guide is used by Apple employees, Apple Authorized Resellers, and other sales organizations during customer conversations and product demonstrations. Its code includes a direct reference to adding an offer to Wallet:
“You can add this trade-in offer to your Apple Wallet. It will be valid for 90 days.”
Another string tells the customer to scan a QR code displayed by an employee with the iPhone camera. The resulting Wallet pass would store the selected trade-in offer, although the code does not establish that Apple has finalized the feature or how it will work in every sales channel.
The reported workflow covers the full valuation process. It can check trade-in eligibility, scan or accept a device’s serial number or IMEI, record the condition of its exterior, run Apple Diagnostics, obtain a price from trade-in partners, and generate a Wallet pass.
9to5Mac also found references to Apple’s TradeInKit framework in Guide. The publication says the feature is controlled by server-side switches that have not been enabled, so it is not currently available to employees or customers.
Apple’s existing online trade-in estimates are advertised as valid for 14 days. The company can revise the amount if the device’s condition differs from the description, Activation Lock has not been removed, or the device is not returned within the required period. The code reportedly includes warnings about device lock status and additional server controls.
